Next.js vs WordPress: Which Is Right for Your Business Website?
Both can power a great business website. Here is how to choose between Next.js and WordPress based on your team, goals and how often content changes.

"Should we use WordPress or Next.js?" is one of the most common questions we get. Neither is universally better. The right choice depends on who will edit the site, how custom it needs to be, and how much performance matters to you.
The short version
- Choose WordPress if you or your team want to edit content yourselves through a familiar dashboard.
- Choose Next.js if you want maximum speed, a highly custom design, or a web application — and you are happy for developers to manage content changes.
WordPress: strengths
- Easy content editing. Non-technical teams can update text, images and pages without developers.
- Huge ecosystem. Plugins cover forms, SEO, e-commerce and more.
- Quick to launch for brochure-style business sites and blogs.
Watch out for: plugin bloat, security updates that need attention, and performance that depends on hosting and theme quality.
Next.js: strengths
- Speed. Pages can be pre-rendered and served from a CDN, which helps Core Web Vitals and user experience.
- Total design freedom. No theme limitations; the site is built exactly to your design.
- Great for apps. Dashboards, portals and interactive features sit naturally alongside marketing pages.
- Strong SEO foundations with server rendering, clean metadata and structured data.
Watch out for: content changes usually need a developer, unless the site includes a custom admin panel (see the middle path below).
A middle path
You do not have to give up easy editing to get a fast site. A Next.js site can include a lightweight admin panel for blog posts and pages, so your team publishes without touching code, while visitors still get static-speed pages.
Quick decision guide
| If you need… | Pick |
|---|---|
| Edit pages yourself, fast launch | WordPress |
| Top performance and custom UI | Next.js |
| A web app plus marketing site | Next.js |
| Large plugin-driven features | WordPress |
